  • Makes other songwriters consider new careers...

No one writes lyrics like James McMurtry, his music is almost a different and deeper art form than other music. This is an album that you put on, sit back, close your eyes, and let the stories, lines, phrases, and emotions take you for a ride. It’s such a rare talent that you forget the power a song can have- until you listen to a McMurtry album.

Copper Canteen in magic. I’ve listened to that song so many times already. The song belongs in the Smithsonian… Album is great.

Hey future, this is America in 2015. As a writer, my professional jealousy of JM is only outweighed by my love of him.
  • Great songwriting - from real living. Perfect.

James takes us into a world where every detail is important, every moment is inspirational. This is truly some great songwriting, singing and playing, all at the highest level. Highly recommended.

This might be his best album. And that is really saying something. A lyrical genius.
  • Another Great Album

I’ll admit I survive on a steady diet of McMurtry; have for years and that ain’t changing anytime soon. I’ve seen him live a half-dozen times, both solo and with the band (go if you get a chance) and he has always been amazing. I love this album. The songs remind me very much of my 2 favorite McMurtry albums, Where’d You Hide the Body, and It Had to Happen. I’m pleased to hear more of an acoustic album from him. His lyrics always shine as they do here again and the guitar work is excellent. Love South Dakota and Cutter. This man is an amazing artist. Buy his music and hear him play live.

This is such wonderful storytelling, and just a touch more produced than I expected. Always a treat.
