Ok, 1st let me tell u I have been a Bjork fan since debut - & no I wasn't into the sugercubes. Every album has outdone the other . No other artist out there can come close to Bjork- NOBODY. Below, you'll see comments like where's the songwriting .. are u insane ??!! ; I blame Matthew Barney- why? Life is about experiences: good & bad; ups & downs ; high & lows ; she's a Scorpio like me - birth• death• rebirth• this album is death- rebirth is coming up- Takk fyrír björk.

After the fairly weak Volta, and the unreached potential in Biophilia, Bjork follows up with her beautiful and emotional Vulnicura. Featuring unique tracks such as Atom Dance and Lionsong, the heartbreakingly gorgeous Black Lake, also vaguely touching on that of Homogenic and Vespertine in certain ways, this album is one of my favorites from her.

Vulnicura is a story of an emotional wound and the healing process. It details the breakup between Björk and her longtime partner, with whom she had one daughter. The album explores the effects of the wound, as Björk even calls her entire self the wound, signifying its effect on her entire existence, physically and emotionally. She perfectly encapsulates the emotional turmoil of her heart and many others, creating a very personal story that can seamlessly intertwine with others'. Through 9 tracks she expresses the initial wound, the response to the wound, the fears after the wound, the reflection after the wound, and the process of healing. The musical aspect of Vulnicura is minimal and yet beautiful, as to put emphasis on Björk's vocals, which soar over the strings and beats of each track and create immaculate imagery and poetic pieces that form a cohesive beginning to end story. Vulnicura is an emotional exploration and a musical experience, something completely away from the other work she's done, and yet so at home with itself and them. It is an album that will make you think and feel in equal measures, an album that lingers in your thoughts. It is by far one of Björk's best and most intricate works.

The previous review hit the nail on the head. Why oh why won't she make another post or homogenic? It's still relevant. It's still freaking amazingly good and timeless. Beats please!

mostly solid album. first half of family, second half of atom dance, and most of mouth mantra are the weakest points, while notget and lionsong are the strongest. black lake is a solid centerpiece and stonemilker is a beautiful (and predictable) opening. quicksand closes the album on a good note. 8/10
  • Pretentious and self-indulgent

My first ever Björk listening experience. I did not like it in the beginning; I thought it was pretentious, messy, unfinished, and unlistenable. The songs have completely transformed for me now, and I can hear the sobbing in Stonemilker, the impassioned hysteric cries in Lionsong, the sorrow in Black Lake, the hope in Quicksand. Every sound is intentional and honest. A true masterpiece we should all be grateful for. I really hope everyone can appreciate it as much as I do. Thank you so much Björk.

I normally don't write reviews. I won't wax poetic. I'm not going to use senseless jargon. It's a great album. This album demands your time and attention. When you allow it, you'll find what I call "Sonic Art". It's unpredictable. The arrangements are deliberate. It feels honest. Enjoy!
