This is one of my personal favorite Nine Inch Nails albums. This album has a great flow, track after track. This album also has great vocals, great drum solos, and great guitar solos as well. Finally, the instruments wrap around the vocals like no other, and intertwine perfectly. Definitely looking forward to the next limited play album, and extended play album from Nine Inch Nails.

Lots of people talking crap about this album! Well here's a slightly different perspective. I was never a huge NIN fan, outside of "downward Spiral" and "The Fragile." After that....Trent Reznor lost me. Loved his soundtracks, but by the time "year zero" came around, that was it for me. NIN was always about composition and dynamic, like "March Of The Pigs" and "Closer." They're dark, catchy as hell, and equally chaotic and melodically brilliant. "Hesitation Marks" returns us to a Reznor more concerned with composition over sheer volume and angst. The result are extremely rewarding, "copy of a" is kinda like if Radiohead had teeth and balls. The synth tones and progression of the song are just amazing. Then there's "all time low," a little similar to "closer." Don't listen to the people who say this album is short on anger and impassioned vocal performances. Skip "find a way" and "everything," but outside of that it's all gold, especially if your a fan of his warp records influence:). If you liked Downward Spiral, if you like electro like Moderat and Radiohead but wish they incorporated some serious rock, BUY THIS ALBUM.

This album is a "grower" and is yields maximum benefit after multiple listens. As a Long time fan, the first listen didn't totally floor me. Some songs that connected, but many others didn't. Where were the obviously aggressive, assault-on-the-senses tracks we were expecting?? I was left with the impression of "hmmm...that was weird. Maybe I should listen to it again?" After listening for 2 years I believe this is Mr Reznor operating at the peak of his artistic powers in composing, arrangement and production. For the courageous listener that wants to hear music made exactly as the artist intended, without label/business interference.

Copy of A, Come back Haunted, and All Time Low are the best ones and the rest is just ok.

NIN has been, debatably, my favorite band for 25 years. I'm so unimpressed by this album that NIN is no longer in my top 10. Somehow I used to think Reznor was a lyrical genius, but now all I hear are lines like "you took away all my self confidence" or "everything is not ok". While the youthful angst was more justified in his early work, it rings really hollow and intentional now. Reznor is a brilliant musician, but somehow he has opted to waste that incredible ability for melody and harmony by burying it beneath a million bits of ambient, arpeggiated, percussive noise.
  • Different but still amazing!

When i first sampled some of this album I was a bit underwhelmed, but I went through and listened to the whole album and although it is a lot more tame than previous albums, this album is absolutely awesome! Nin has created yet another unique masterpiece!

That's exactly what Trent Reznor is...a musical Wizard. He just keeps getting Better with time! If you are even half a fan, then do yourself a favor & buy the whole CD...you won't be disappointed!
  • NIN aged like a fine wine

Trent Reznor is right where he should be. He has achieved a sort of Bowie esque status in my opinion. Finally he is making music that has transcended the genere he helped put on the map. Losing fans along the way is to be expected when youre not as concerned with marketing yourself to that kid wearing docks and black eyeliner. To make The Downward Spiral over and over again would just be sad. Besides, that kid has most likely grown up, and has traded his black eyeliner for a job at Microsoft anyway. I dont think that Reznor ever intended on marketing himself to fair weather fans who drop the band at the first sign of evolving or God forbid, aging with a little dignity and still making some good music while doing it. If you are 40 and still wearing eye liner and cutting yourself, Im pretty sure Marilyn Manson is still putting out records. If your mom will still let you play it in her basement.

Awesome job Trent! I have been grooving to NIN for 25 years and this album is right in line with your continuing effort for pure self expression. This is what I admire most about NIN and it scratches an itch that others can’t get to.
