Reviews

  • Reviewers missing the point

Part of what makes musicians like Pat vital, what drives their creativity, is that their music changes, and grows and evolves. I agree with the reviewer below who says if you like the older stuff with the group, it is all out there - listen to it and enjoy! But to expect Pat to be stuck in one point in time in his career is to miss the point of the work he does. In fact, there are multiple versions of the group, and other bands he has played with, along with numerous solo recordings, and each offers something new. Let yourself be challenged! If listening to Pat all these years (and owning every one of his recordings) has taught me anything, it is to expect to be surprised. Keep it up Pat, and to everyone else, expand your horizons!

This has been something that Pat has been fascinated by all of his life. Surely we can be patient and forgive him for exploring something that was once un-explorable to his satisfaction. The Way Up was an extraordinary album, one that could not have been easy to create and I'm sure they realize what a hard act that would be to follow. Patience fellow PMG fans,patience......

I do miss Pat's old stuff as well, but Kevin the rest of his bands are all doing quite well and still playing a lot.
  • I was hoping for all new content

The record is a little more raw and live than other records in the past. I kind of like that. Need to hear some new licks.
  • Keep Growing.....

And pushing the limits. That's what music is all about, if you continue living in the past wanting the same type of stuff that was done, you are not growing with him. Playing with the group is great, it's a familiar sound, it's comforting. This is outside of the box, different. I say keep doing what you're doing, either grow with you or get left behind.
  • In for the long run, sir.

I've been quite happy to take anything Pat Metheny has to offer, and in any format. Some of it I'm not so much a fan of, some is wonderful. I saw him in Portland on the Orchestrion tour and it didn't move me, although it was interesting. But organisms evolve. The music some of you are pining for was made almost thirty years ago. Do you really expect the man to repeat himself? The records will always be there. People like Metheny, if they get bored their art turns to crap.

I would have to agree with the other reviewers. Could we please have more from the musician behind San Lorenzo and Are You Going With Me and Sea Song and Phase Dance.
  • I miss the group.

Enough already! We as fan know you sometimes need to get away, and make something that says...you. But it has been close to 20 years to where my Father is wondering what is next with, "The Story". We all love you. There is no doubt about that, but...IT IS TIME. Get back into your place you shared with Lyle, and bring us something. - jim
