Finally, a recording which includes the ENTIRE score with sound quality that just takes one's breath away. Tunick's orchestrations sound so lush and glorious. You would think that the orchestra had 150 people...I agree with all the fabulous comments on Bernadette Peters, Jan Maxwell, and Danny Burstein, but let's not forget Ron Raines, he was absolutely marvelous. I also saw the production live, and with all due respect, I did not like Elaine Paige's "I'm Still Here",' give me Yvonne De Carlo or Nancy Walker over her any day. But buy this recording, must have for Sondheim fans!!!!

I saw the show when it was at the Kennedy Center. I went for Bernadette Peters, whom I dearly love, but this show made me a big fan of Jan Maxwell. I've gotta be honest -- "Could I Leave You" on this recording doesn't even compare to how INCREDIBLE she was onstage during this number. I so wish it did!

There are no words that can properly convey how amazing this show was. I had the fortune of seeing it on Broadway in August and immediately returned the next day to watch it again. Like most Sondheim shows, there is so much meaning in each note and refrain that watching it once cannot even begin to reveal this gem of Broadway. This album is phenomenal and a haunting masterpiece. Not only does it reflect the emotion of each character perfectly, but it is a prime example that restraint from belting can be just as powerful as belting itself.

An absolutely amazing recording of one of the greatest musicals to grace the Broadway stage in recent memory. I was fortunate enough to see this production in October 2011 (the same day I got an iPhone 4S!) and plan on seeing it again in January before it closes. This heart wrenching and captivating recording is a must have. The music is Sondheim at it's best, and the cast couldn't be better. Well done.
  • Anyone can sing Sondheim's songs, these performers can act them

The beauty of this cast recording of the 2011 Follies is that it accurately captures how they performed the song on stage. It's not just a collection of sweetly sung songs. Jan Maxwell nails "Could I Leave You?", and the expression of her pain and rage are expertly captured on this disk. Ms. Maxwell is right up there with Elaine Stritch's "Ladies Who Lunch" in terms of depth of interpretation. "In Buddy's Eyes", "Ah, Paris", "Broadway Baby" and "Who's That Woman?" - excellent singing and performance. I especially liked Elaine Page's version of "I'm Still Here" and I have never liked "The Right Girl" until I heard Danny Burstein's singing it. Bernadette Peters knows when to belt them out and when a more reserved performance is right for the piece and she doesn't disappoint with her range here. I hope the Tony organization manufactures a few more dozen statues - this cast should be taking them home. Although you can't see it on this recording, the staging and costumes were right on, especially the restraint and craziness of "Live, Laugh, Love" and the mirror number.

Absolutely amazing. Simply the best recording of this show that exists. This is the version to buy. And for that one critical reviewer who complains about Bernadette sounding strained, of course she sounds strained, it's intentional. She's making an acting choice with "Losing My Mind". And in an interview with Sondheim about this recording he stated that there is more dialogue in this recording because the show has such little plot and is so driven by dialogue.
