  • OK album

This is one of their weaker albums, with a lot of material written by outsiders and a lot of session musicians and a sort of BOC Lite sound. They tried a high-tech makeover here, but it ended up flopping commercially and critically. Still, there is some good stuff here, especially 'Perfect Water' and also 'White Flags' and 'Dancin' In The Ruins.' Really, the whole 'first side' is passable. The second side is weaker, but there are some worthwhile passages once you get past the horrible 'Beat 'Em Up.' It's an improvement over the AOR stylings of 'Revolution By Night,' but still their second-weakest album. Check out 'Heaven Forbid' and 'Curse of the Hidden Mirror' for a more authentic take on latter-day BOC.

After the underwhelming sales of "The Revolution By Night" and the departure of long time member Allen Lanier, BOC was in a musical no man's land. This was their last attempt at regaining the mainstream success that they had lost before being relegated to "on tour forever" status. Unfortunately, "Club Ninja" would not regain the throne for BOC. In the attempt however, they did provide a nice collection of songs which any true BOC fan can appreciate. I would even go as far as to say that this sounds more like BOC than the previous studio album "The Revolution by Night". There are some nice songs here. "Perfect Water" is classic Buck Dharma all the way. "Dancing in the Ruins" is a catchy tune reminiscent of "Burnin For You" in spite of the fact that no band members received writing credit. "White Flags" is an energy packed opening tune and "Madness to the Method" is a nice closer. The bottom line is that, to me, there is not a clunker in this entire collection. It's apparent that this collection of music may not have much appeal to anyone but an already existing BOC fan. If you are one of those and you happened to miss this one, buy it right now. You won't be disappointed.
  • Underrated…even by the band themselves

This is the album that BOC claims they want to forget, which is really to bad as it has some essential songs from the mid-80`s version of the band. Give it a listen!
  • Underrated and that's a shame..

This is a great record. I bought it as soon as in came out on vinyl and pretty much wore it out. It's great to have it on CD (and now digital download) again. If you're a BOC fan this should be part of your collection - for Perfect Water if no other reason (although Dancing in the Ruins is also a terrific song).
  • This album is simply awesome!

I've had this album since it came out in 1985 on cassette! Still in grade school :) I absolutely love this album. There are some truly great songs here. If your a fan of BOC and have avoided it because of others bad opinions about it, then you cheated yourself out of a great and memorable album. There is a lot of atmosphere and depth here. Much like BOC will be on tour forever, this album will easily remain as one of my top 10 albums..forever. (Ok, that was cheesy, but it's actually true)! This album is truly awesome!
