Reviews

  • Not the Same Unfortunately

I've seen Chevelle live a few times now and unfortunately their songs don't translate from album to live very well. Singer/guitarist Pete Loeffler is great in concert...he plays and sings well and has personality/good crowd rapport but he is only one man. Part of Chevelle's signature is the layered vocals and killer harmonies and they just don't seem to have that live, as you can hear on this album. Many 3 piece bands hire an additional guitarist and backing vocalist when touring...perhaps that would fill it up a bit. Regardless, I am still a very big fan of this band as they keep getting better and better.

Many reviewers here are commenting on the quality of the vocals in this live album. I can't disagree more. I absolutely love this album! It enhances my respect for the band, and (hopefully) I will get the opportunity to see them live in 2013!

I am from Illinois-Chevelle's home state, have always been a huge fan. I've been to nearly 100 Chevelle shows- yes really! I've met them all- including no longer with the band brother Joe. These guys are AEWSOME people PERIOD. Reading the reviews on how Pete can't hit half the notes ect... come on this guy is one of the original "screamers" and that is hard on the throat and the diaphram. It is not easy to get up on stage night after night and scream. He lost his voice while performing before and the crowd was horrible. They were booing and just rude. I support these guys 100%, it is not easy screaming your lungs out live. The studio is one thing but live is totally different, I've seen guys come off stage after screaming and throw up cause its hard on the body after doing it so long. Besides, once you look beyond the screaming you will see that these guys are the most underrated talented musicians out here. The best time to see Chevelle is when Pete has had a day or two of rest in between performing live shows.

They're not the best band live. Pete can't hit half the notes / screams live. Missing a lot of great songs... but i'm a fan, so I bought it...
  • Chevelle is great, but.......

Chevelle is probably one of my favorite bands of all time, and I've always been a die hard fan of their music. I saw them in the summer of 2009 along with Staind and Shinedown and it was a real disappointment. Chevelle is great, but they are a terrible live band. It is safe to say that they are just studio artists....they can do anything in the studio and make it sound great and sell Gold and Platinum albums, but when they take the stage...yikes. Something tells me that their lead singer, Pete, isn't comfortable playing guitar and singing at the same time. He leaves out words and sometimes whole verses, his voice changes from song to song, and he just cannot scream like he does on the actual studio recordings. They are 3 very talented guys who come up with some awesome music, especially seeing that there are only 3 of them in the band. Definately a super great band, but the live stuff I would say, is only for those die hard Chevelle fans.

  • Love Chevelle- Except Live...

I couldn't be a bigger Chevelle fan, but the fact is what is recorded doesn't translate live. The quality and power of the live vocals are a FAR CRY from what you hear on their CDs. I still love this band, but feel a little robbed when I hear them live. Kind of like seeing an amazing picture, realize it's been Photoshopped, and then seeing the original. Sad but true.

Despite the last minute change from being a greatest hits cd with an exclusive interview, this live cd is okay.. some of the songs are kinda hard to tolerate pete's vocals, but it's nice to see chevelle throw in "sleep walking elite" and "straight Jacket Fashion". There's a great amount of energy throughout the cd, I just wish they would've put some of they're older stuff on here.

I have always been a huge fan of Chevelle. They have a unique sound that no one else can duplicate and their lyrics are poignant and creative. I have seen Chevelle live a few times and each time I was blown away. The energy they have on stage is contagious and you can't help but have a great time. That being said, something gets lost in translation when they record a live album. Maybe without the energy and thrill of actually being at the concert the flaws show through, but I just don't enjoy listening to their live albums when the studio recording sounds so much better. Regardless, I will always support Chevelle and I hope there are many more great albums to come.
