DMB has too much music for a "greatest hits" package. That's one of the amazing things about the band, it's hard to identify any track from any album that isn't pretty darn good. I look at the track list on this package and they're all great songs but a couple of my personal favorites didn't make the cut based on fan input, songs such as Dreaming Tree and Jimi Thing. Hopefully anyone that is buying this because they aren't familiar with DMB's entire catalog will make the effort to listen to all of their earlier releases eventually.
  • Good introduction to a great band.

If you are looking for the quickest way to get into DMB, I would suggest getting this and Big Whiskey. It gives a nice studio sample with 2 songs from each of their first 6 studio albums (Remember Two Things was their independent debut live album). More importantly though it gives a nice sample of their live stuff which is their bread & butter and why they are so popular. This also includes What You Are & The Last Stop which were available on the Encore CD available on the band's website for preorder when this album was first released. The only complaint which i've seen others mention is why is this album $24.99? I think the price is a little high and i'm sure you can get it in stores for much cheaper, just without the last 2 tracks. Somehow get this as a good introduction to a great band, listen & enjoy!

The first "Best of What's Around" Vol.1 is amazing..... Now a few years later and the fans are crying out for another fan focused compilation!
