I don't think people understand how masterful this album is. Phish, especially Junta and their early years is like nothing you've heard. So jovial, sweet, tight, crisp and upbeat. They can hold their own with this album against anyone!
  • THE quintessential jam band album of ALL TIME

Junta is an absolute treasure. This album brings back a lot of hazy, happy memories of college for me, but the music really transcends the generations--it will be a classic for as long as people pull tubes and dance. my little kids' faves include contact, fee, david bowie, and you enjoy myself. they're just songs that make the soul happy. divided sky is my favorite phish song of all time. phish has lost some of my interest in recent years with their newer stuff, but i will always have junta. there are not enough stars for this album.

This band can really jam. Buy this album, sit back, relax and enjoy.

Junta is probably my favorite Phish album. I think Phish started off selling these albums at their live shows WAY WAY WAY back (without the bonus tracks), but then it got rereleased by Elektra in 1992. Songs such as "You Enjoy Myself", "David Bowie", and "The Divided Sky" are incredible jam songs. Then there are funny songs ("Contact", "Icculus", "Esther") that are just plain fun to listen to. Overall, great album and great tracks, great instrumentals.

The first Phish song I ever heard was "Contact", and I laughed my a** off (this might have been due to my, um, altered brain chemistry at the time). After that I dove headfirst into the world of Phish. While Phish has an amazing discography, "Junta" will always remain my favorite.

This album is an absolute masterpiece full of mindblowing progressive instrumentals. Phish's best, and it's not close. The Divided Sky is my favorite song and has been since the first time I heard it. Trey's guitar dances in your brain... I've never heard anything else like it. Anyway, since you're reading this review you MUST buy this. It'll be the best $10 you ever spent on ITunes. I don't give out 5 stars often. If I could I would give this 6.

21 years later and I still love this album! The music is fantastic and by far one of the best albums I have ever heard.

This is one hell of a record. Especially the 1st disc (Songs 1-9). Whether your a big phan or just looking for some good music that you might not have heard, I highly recommend it. I think this album does the best job of capturing who Phish is, and still to some extent is today. It has some of their musical staples as a band, as well as some catchy tunes that any phan of music can enjoy. It also really showcases how talented guitarist and composer Trey Anastasio is with complex melodies, compositions, and changes in the songs. The second disc is a treat too. "Fluffhead" is a musical masterpiece, and the 25 minute "Union Federal" (part of what is known as an Oh Kee Pa Ceremony" in Phish circles) foreshadows their jamming domination of the 1980's, 1990's, and the 2000's.
  • A MUST have for any music enthusiast!
