A Pure Pop Masterpiece

While this is undisputedly Vince Clarke's Depeche Mode, Martin still brought a lot fo dark edges to things that can be heard in "Puppets", "Photographic", and of course the one song on the album that he wrote, "Tora, Tora, Tora". The simple keyboard electronics combined with Dave Gahan's youthful exuberence defined the sound of an entire new movement. "Dreaming of Me' and "New Life" are infectious dance songs, and no song defines the era better than "Just Can't Get Enough". Thoe opening keyboard riff ha, and forever will be short-hand for all things fun and carefree in the 80s

The primitive but promising debut for DM is quirky, immature and a bit repetitive...but, then again, so was all other circa '81 synth pop (Kraftwerk, etc.). Nonetheless, most long time fans of the band agree: this was a pretty good start for the lads from Basildon.
Good beats
