Another *almost* perfect LP tainted by several filler tracks (“Save the Life of My Child, Overs, Fakin’ It, At the Zoo”). I like the inclusion of “Voices of Old People,” which fits perfectly with the overall theme of the album, but it would have been much better to have weaved a little subtle music around those voices in some places and spread out the snippets as transitions between songs (like Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon” — which came along five years later and was probably influenced by this album). Enough about the copper — as for the rest of the tracks? PURE GOLD: “America, Bookends themes, Old Friends, Punky’s Dilemma, A Hazy Shade of Winter, and Mrs. Robinson.” Nothing puts me in a classic red Alfa Romeo convertible with Elaine better than this! So, if they’d have cut the few fillers and added some extended Mrs. Robinson musical deviations (you can hear some of it on “The Graduate” film, especially during Ben’s desperate ride to find Elaine) it would have been perfect.

Bought to re-enjoy the album from my past. Was remastered into trash.

I could listen to this album every day, stunning simplicity with a worldly view and accomplished artistry that is truly missing from almost all contemporary music. The great Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel you cannot top this recording, ever.

Hands down, this album defines Simon and Garfunkel's career. There isn't a track that I don't love.
  • One of the best

The year was 1968. Bobby Kenedy was dead and so was MLK. America was caught up in a useless war. So Paul Simon whipped out his pen and wrote Mrs. Robinson, Overs, Old Friends and helped make folk-rock (and S&G) what it is today. Though some of the songs (such as the bookends theme) are a little slow, they are wondeful

It would be hard for any group to continue along the path of musical success with such masterpieces as "Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme" and "Sounds Of Silence" preceding it, but The Dynamic Duo of folk music drove a powerhouse disk of tunes home with "Bookends." From the elegant poetry of "America" to the darkness of "Save the Life of My Child," Simon and Garfunkel made a record of both the sound that made them famous, and the experimental sounds of the day. With the mismash of tales in "Voices Of Old People" and the distorted synth in "Save the Life of My Child," S&G made a dramatic step forward. This disk marks the official release of "Mrs. Robinson," made famous in The Graduate. You would be hard pressed to find an album with such a moving track list.

Cool! I love folk music! I am not even 9 years old and yet I have listened to these guys since I was 2 years old. My friends listen to Simon & Garfunkel too! I'm burning a CD for my entire class. Mrs. Robinson is the best song. This is my first review. If you like folk, pop, or rock buy a song from this album or buy the album. You'll love it!
