I've been a follower of Nathaniel for quite a long time, and seen him live many times. Solo. With the Wheel. And of course with the Night Sweats. The fact, right there, that he shows so many sides in his artistry brings me pure joy! This album is fantastic, and the fact that he just keeps putting out gold, without sounding repetitive, nor "ordinary"... is pure gold. The "new fans" who give this a low rating because they jumped on board when they heard SOB need to scroll along. I this crew roll in and out of his performances too, chasing a band without understanding the man. I hope he takes their low reviews a compliment, as he is clearly not afraid to follow where his heart takes his music.

I’ve been catching NR since the videos and recordings from the early festival days before the movie (not bragging, just showing my credentials). I am an oldies, rock, hard rock, r&b, and sometimes country kind of guy. This record, as much of a departure from the danceable stuff with the Nightsweats (wonderfully performed and composed by the way), is such a touching routes throwback for NR, in my opinion. Folky, written so well, composed so thoughtfully....just great. I don’t care if your ego won’t let you play this when nobody else is around or if you’re so open and proud you that don’t mind. One way or another, you’ll benefit from this album if you just listen and get lost in it. While you’re at it, check out the old days of NR. Great songs. Big fan. Can’t wait to catch him live again.

Nathaniel Rateliff is great, songs are well written. Though Im more of a fan of night sweats faster paced songs a little more, I’m still digging this one. Nathaniel Rateliff is just a great artist.

I fell in love with the songs already. I think that you can’t compare the two sides that this artist has shown. The fast soulful sound Nathaniel has with the Night Sweats is always in heavy rotation playlist; however, so are his other solo works. So when this new album came out. It was a must get — and I am not disappointed. Sad, soft and unforgiving but real life is just as mournfully beautiful. I look forward to more...
