  • With a Lot of Help from Her Friends

It's good but not that great after many hearings. When I first heard the beautiful Dionne-Bacharachesque "Don't" , I wondered if it was from her musical that never happened , "Diner" as it has that early 60s groove. And it is! It's the best song here partly because Sheryl is not being interrupted by anyone. Lucius only contributes the backup. Sheryl has often collaborated with other artists- C'Mon C'Mon had major artists working on almost every cut. She's already duetted with half the music industry. It's almost as if she's relying on them to bring her listeners. Threads didn't need to be a duets album, however. On some cuts, the collaborators sound like intrusions. On some, like Wouldn't Want to be Like You- sounds current if done by a young 22 year old hungry artist starting out; but whining about rich people, when you yourself are a multi-millionaire, and all the politicians you admire are also crooked millionaires, is a little, well, rich. She's not the Clash. To hear Sheryl on this, you'd think the United States is falling apart. Since we're not at war, and the economy's good enough for people to buy both vinyl and download, just what bugs her? She takes her politics from DNC talking points and MSNBC. It's all fake rage. She is one of the most privileged people in the US along with her two white adopted boys who look just like her, and she banks on the capitalist system of HSN to giv her extra cash peddling clothes . Aimee Mann and Suzanne Vega write a hundred times better songs than she does without the million dollar success that is Crow. She should re record the whole album without the intruding voice of her superfluous "musical heroes" who add nothing to her songs. Too many covers, too many people. Bring it down to ten and just sing th songs about the good all days.

All I have to say is wow! So good. Every song is great. And the other singers who join her are an impressive group who really work well with her. But the real showcase is the songwriting - great voices need a great song to really shine, and there are several great songs here. Just love it!

Country, rock , pop, R&B ,and yes Rap ... it's all in there if you listen carefully. These are the THREADS of music and Sheryl Crow weaves them together to create a TAPESTRY of music. The list of guest artists is long and mindboggling. Great album that Is Truly a masterpiece. Sheryl will be at the grammy awards and will take some away from Taylor and Miranda. Congrats!!!!! • Masterpiece - double album for the price of one

Written in genre of her guests.....each song is unique in presentation, arrangement, and attitude. There is a duet with johnny cash that is soooooo dark, and yet hopeful. How long has this album been in the making? Absolutely brilliant work. I've been listening non-stop for 3 days and it just gets better and better. Songs with Bonnie/Mavis, or Joe Walsh, Chris Stapleton, Lucius, st. Vincent, James Taylor, Eric Clapton, Neil Young, Jason Isbell, and on and on. This is something special....plus, what a great price for essentially a double album.

Wow Sheryl sounds like an actual crow on this album. Her voice is shot like elastic. No wonder she doesn’t want to release any more albums.
  • Another Gem from Sheryl

I can't find a single track that I don't like. My faves are "Dont" because it reminds me of a 60's girl singing group and "Wouldnt Want To Be Like You" which reminds me of the girl Alt band Northern State. Colaberations with new artists I had never heard of that will make me seek out their collections, like St Vincent and Lucious, and a lot that are beloved legends, Joe Walsh, Emmylou Harris, Johnny Cash, James Taylor and oh so many more!
  • A gift wrapped treasure...

Sheryl has the presence to pick up the phone, call anyone in the music industry, and ask them to join her for a song. Beyond brilliant, every song is a treasure of talent wrapped around warm and heart-felt songs. Her duet with Johnny Cash is goose-bump worthy, her soft melody with Willie Nelson reveals a simple tenderness that unfolds in layers. Enjoy the wealth of true talent on display, it's music at it's best.
