Why the dramatic change up?
By Harvey Birdman the man
It’s kind of sad. Why don’t bands stay the course after making a killer album? Take Chromeo for example. Year after year they come out with killer albums, staying in their lane..... creating songs that could very well be on the same massive album. It is what fans want. OMAM has now followed the path of Mumford&Sons and Arcade Fire..... switching from a great Organic sound that is unique, to a mainstream approach that is too poppy and electronic. This album is a mediocrity.
This album is pretty generic. Alligator was a hype inducer to an underwhelming album, so was Wild Roses. I pretty much knew OMAM would take somewhat of a turn toward more modern and poppy, but this is ridiculous. Alligator, Wild Roses, Róróró, Stuck in Gravity are the only good tracks in my opinion. The rest are generic pop hot garbage that is ruining the music industry. C'mon OMAM, y'all know better.
Amazing Album.....at 1st Disappointed

At first I thought this album was disappointing and a turn to pop. But, I can’t stop listening to it a month and a half later. It is a departure from their previous two albums, but it is such an amazing collection of songs. I listen to it much more than I did “Beneath the Skin”. Sorry for my original harsh review OMAM...I felt like I owed you a new one!

I loved their last album Beneath the Skin. This one just sounds generic, devoid of their unique style
so / sad
Expectations dashed. Alligator is the only keeper.
Yeaaaaa not the same at all
What happened to the instruments??? Most of it is computerized and yes pop like. Come on of monster and men! Please stick to the good and old!
Hate this charmless pop sound.
Bring back the folk sound. Don't like this synthesized pop! Same mistake Mumford and Sons made. 😠
By Awful. Horrible.
Love it, has a nice new sound. But still resemble’s previous albums. Perfection
Many bands and artists have an album where they stray so far from what made them great. This is that album.
The HEAVY usage of 80’s pop and effects kills any folkish style that they had in previous albums. His vocals are drowned out and not as apparent. In contrast, her vocals did reach a new level. That is the only positive I have.
Maybe they are a band wagon group making music for whatever genre is popular. I hated every song on this and will not try it again.
Worst fears came true.
They were so good. But this is typical basic pop. Truly disappointed that they went for the $$$ and traded in their good music for this.
