Reviews

  • A VERY underrated album!!

This album is pretty great! Not their best but still really good. A bunch of people find this and Peace to be too light, soft, and thrown together, but DH deserves with how many aggressive songs they have to be able to tone back a bit for a couple albums (not that they do, Unbound is a real banger!) but still they have so many songs, a couple lighter ones never hurt anybody! Great album!
  • Gave up on Demon Hunter a while back, but…

I decided on a short weekend off of work to go back to the roots of some of my “Underground” metal, so I took a flip through YouTube videos and listen to some songs on my home audio system. Don’t know how, but I managed to get a hit from Demon Hunter at the top of the list (On My Side). Haven’t heard a Demon Hunter song for quite a few years, but wow, this song deserves it’s replay button. Check it out!

There isn’t a Demon Hunter album I don’t like, but this one is in the top three for me. Total war- let the demonic heads roll

Demon Hunter is out for blood on War, their most ferocious release in a long time. What I love most about this album is that no two songs are alike; they all have their moments whether it's the extended breakdown on Close Enough, the beautiful lead guitar work on Gray Matter, or three minutes of relentless fury on Ash. They save the best for last, though: Lesser Gods just might be my new favorite DH song. Give it a listen; if you don't want to spend the money, listen to the full song on youtube. Then you'll probably want to spend that money.

While I am still baffled on why I have to leave a 3 star review, I’m also disappointed. Where was this recorded, in a garage? I mean there’s nothing but mids and treble. I’ve got every DH album and I have been listening to them when they first released and the mastering on this sounds like it was done in someones basement. Their first album’s sound better. There’s no bass or hit from the double bass that I’m used too. And all the albums before this sound 10 times better. While I believe the songs could sound better, I think DH did a huge disservice by having both of these albums poorly mastered. I guess that’s what happens when you self support. Now they need to be remastered. I definitely feel like they put out two subpar albums.

Amazing dual release to match the personas of a person
  • Not bad, but...

Cut to Fit and Close Enough I think are absolutely outstanding 11/10, some of their best songs ever, and for that I can give a full star rating. The rest? On My Side and Grey Matter aren’t bad but aren’t really special; kind of generic sounding, really. The Negative and Unbound aren’t bad either but are a bit more of a fun listen than the last two mentioned. Ash is just too screamy for my taste, but since I’m not into much heavier metal like that I don’t really have much of an argument against it. Then the last three just blurred together for me. I tried listening again but didn’t even finish a full one. And another thing: every bad review for any DH album has had very solid reasoning. Until War and Peace. (Just sayin’)
  • Classic DH style

These guys just aren’t what they used to be. I miss their earlier albums when they were heavier and more fast paced.
