  • Can you hear the angony

Sam Cooke was a man of his times. He lived the inequality in his life, the business he worked in the sidewalks he walked on the places he drove. He was a crooner to most, but he was so much more. When you listen to Live at Harlem Square you hear the rawness. He lft that live performance and where did he stay? Not in a hotel. It was before Civil Rights. The song Change is a song is about the desparate desire for change. I would loved to have heard him sing it with the rawness that you could hear at Harlem Square.

A long forgotten formula: Hit songs with a great singer. Sam Cooke was the greatest and probably the most underrated singer in the history of American music. Get all the albums you can; there are a lot of hidden gems that are not in the larger, comprehensive collections.
