What a voice! Incredible range and quite refreshing. I wish music like this was on the radio.

    k. d. lang burst onto the music scene with a unique brand of what she called "Torch and Twang" - her fresh, amazing take on traditional Nashville sounds raised a stir, and her gorgeous, rich, open-throated voice literally stunned audiences everwhere she went. Then she decided she wanted to have a career AFTER she came out of the closet, and began laying the foundation to court a newer, younger, hipper audience, rather than continue to court the old-timers in Nashville. Unfortunately, her pop stuff is just not as good as her 'torch and twang.' Revisiting these old tunes just reminds me of how great k.d. can really be, and I only hope that sales are interesting enough to pique her interest in a return to her former glory. k.d., for God's sake - let the whole idea of 'performance artist' go - if there's one thing you should showcase on a k.d. lang album, it's K.D. LANG - that big, beautiful voice should soar and you should let it! Come back to us, k.d.!!

I have not yet seen a mention in any articles about these songs being different versions from the original albums. Perhaps she pulled the masters and chose different versions? That would certainly be wonderful -- most artists don't do that. Unless there are two different albums. These songs Starting with AT&T are not the ones on the original albums.
  • deja vu

This album is like sliding into an old pair of jeans then heading off to the tree to get stoned. It's lanquid but peppy and full of life. Lang's voice has never sounded better and the irony represented is reminiscent of her work "Drag" Come on in, the water's fine.
