Just listened to the whole disc. Way too commercial, lost her soul, autotune, too many people involved, over-produced and underwritten. What on earth is going on ? Don’t go down the Isbell route. (There will always be the musically challenged idiots that rave about it and say it’s good, but it’s obvious they don’t have any idea about what constitutes good and lasting music). Very poor effort. Take back control before you become just one of the others. Poor.
  • Shires-Isbell-Cobb killer combo !!!

Always have loved Amanda’s work and this is a wonderful addition. Top musicianship with great songwriting and production. Boom, top shelf. Time for some awards.

She sure as hell succeeded. Mrs. Shires did an amazing job on taking what she did well before (great melody, strong lyrics and beautiful vocals)and turned them up to 110. Wow, a totally different take on southern folk music. Some won’t appreciate it... but it was done perfectly congrats to Mrs. and Mr. Shires ;-) Ps. Check out 9NorthWhite for more isbell/shires and great people doing great things!

Haha just kidding. Love these guys. Amanda not only brings it, but kills it.
  • What was her producer thinking?

I've seen Amanda in-performance in a living room concert unaccompanied, in a small club with only a bassist accompanying her, and twice with a full band. I've purchased every album and EP that precedes this one. When I stumbled across "When You Need A Train . . ." as a video years ago, I was sold. But this one, with the multracking of her vocals, upon first sampling, seems to obscure her plaintive, poetic essence in a push for something more -- commercial? -- or, well, I don't know what. So far, it lacks appeal to me. I'll come back and try again. But I'm not sold on this effort . . . yet.

I like this record a lot. The songs keep getting stuck in my head. I think this album feels more cohesive than her last record “My Piece of Land.” Her voice is great as always. “Mirror Mirror” and “Wasn’t I Paying Attention” are my two favorites songs so far.

I love the approach Amanda has taken with this new album. It’s got an outer space vibe to go along with her amazing vocals! It also has some great guitar work to go along with her violin. It has a great range of alt country, alternative rock and pop. She’s an amazing talent and I look forward to her future.

Saw her at the first stop of this tour. Less the 100 folks in a great small venue and was blown away. Amanda and her band just plain rocked it.
