I laugh at the thought of how this came after Plans. Plans was all calm and ballad-y, and then they released what I now refer to as – Death Cab’s “rock out” EP. But at least it’s their best EP yet. Here’s why… 1. Crooked Teeth – 10/10 – The highlight of Plans is as good as ever! I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE this song, and it’s also the highlight of this EP. This is Death Cab’s second best song behind the Cure cover they did called “Love Song”. It is on an album with “various artists”, so you have to use power search to find it. 2. World Shut Your Mouth – 9.8/10 – What a catchy song! I love to open up the window and start screaming the lyrics to this song. Apparently it’s a cover song! Who knew? 3. Talking Like Turnstiles – 10/10 – Really cool song. Reminds me of something off The Photo Album. Give it a few listens, and I guarantee you’ll fall in love with it. Best to Worst: Crooked Teeth Talking Like Turnstiles World Shut Your Mouth This EP is a must buy, ESPECIALLY if you liked Narrow Stairs. It truly is the best EP ever.

First let me say, this is a wonderful EP. Crooked Teeth, as it is, I believe is one of Death Cab's greatest songs, and one of the best on Plans. Then, the two B-sides here are really quite good songs, the best comparing only with "My Mirror Speaks". Then to the upbeat part. This EP, as wonderful as it is, does NOT show all of Plans. Plans is a quite nice mellow selection of ballad music flowing perfectly into it's hour-nearing length, while this EP is Death Cab letting loose and going crazy. "World Shut Your Mouth" is a headbanger with an awesome guitar section in the middle, and interesting lyrics. The title may turn you off, but have a listen, and it's actually got decent lyrics. "Talking Like Turnstiles", though, is one of my favorite Death Cab For Cutie songs out there. It starts off with a Tiny Vessels induced guitar pattern, then it hits you, as the heavy (For Death Cab) guitar comes in with a riff that easily could be a White Stripes intro. All in all, a wonderful EP, easily worth your three and a half bucks. WOW!!!!

The lyrical depth and melody of Crooked Teeth gives me shivers, and, as cliche as it sounds, the others just don't meet that standard. World Shut Your Mouth and Talking Like Turnstiles would sound better if they weren't next to such a song of beauty.
  • A Decent Collection

I have all of Death Cab's studio albums and I don't understand how people can say this a new direction. Granted, Plans is a much shinier album, but this EP sounds much more like their earlier stuff. The riff in "Talking Like Turnstiles" sounds straight out of the We Have The Facts... or Photobooth era Death Cab material. I think that the release of this EP is a sign that they haven't totally abandonded their earlier sound.

This is a really good EP by DCFC, and I thought that Crooked Teeth was a great song. However, its definitly a new revamped style that Death Cab is banging out, because if you listen to their earlier stuff like the Transatlanticism or even Plans albums, its alot quieter, while this is pretty loud and upbeat. All in all, definitly a good EP and worth the money.

The first review on the page, by someone called "NaziGrandma", is somewhat mistaken. He/she refers to Death Cab for Cutie's "new direction" as "more loud than anything else". What I think is the loudest/most overwhelming track, and probably the one he/she is referring to, is "World Shut Your Mouth"... which was first seen as a track on the internet-only "Title and Registration" single... which was released in 2004. And, by the way, it's actually a cover. And as for the EP itself... I love the song "Crooked Teeth", but you'd be better off getting the entire Plans album and then purchasing the two extra tracks found here, because Plans is worth it, and these two songs are a nice addition to your library, although not the best from Death Cab for Cutie... at least they're two more songs to listen to while you wait for the next album.

Love DCFC. I have ever since their first LP. The cover of World Shut Your Mouth is great! It's a shame that a lot of fans only know them only from the radio and haven't the benefit of past musical knowledge. It's a great big world, and there has been a lot of great music produced over the last 30 years! Take a chance... investigate... open your mind and step inside! Start with Peggy Suicide by Julian Cope. (He's the author of World Shut Your Mouth.) You'll be glad you did.
