    1. I'm not a die-hard Owl City fan, so I can't rightly be accused of mindlessly loving everything he makes no matter how bad it is. 2. But I like alot of the music - recent and old. 3. I don't understand the people who say that the lyrics have no meaning...this is a FATHERS DAY song for crying out loud. What part of that has "no meaning"? 4. I think the blend of styles is great, and the vocals are nice. They are nice and gentle, but not hollow.

Being a hardcore and longtime fan, I too have loved the older albums from this project(MID, ATBAB, OE). I often hear critics pointing out that Owl City's newer music is garbage. Yes, everybody misses the dreamy, inspirational and introspective themes of Adam's earlier albums and projects like Sky Sailing, but everyone must understanding that life experiences change the type of music an artist makes. It unconsciously shapes a new album and style and the same applies to Adam's recent music production. Not dissing any critics, I'd like to point out that even if Owl City returned to the Ocean Eyes or Maybe I'm Dreaming styles, Adam wouldn't be able to pull the same effect off because Adam talked about things and experiences that fascinated him back then. OE, MID, ATBAB, Sky Sailing, Port Blue were all moments that defined his experience as a growing young adult and brought one of the most beautiful sounds that I personally have heard in my life! Still, MO and TMS are definitely not uninspired in the lyrical and instrumental department. Sure, a few tracks are weak in those areas...but overall I see a maturing a producer, musician at work. His sampling is legendary and unrecognized!! The way he plays with organic samples and creates percussion for his songs isn't appreciated enough... Coming to 'Not All Heroes Wear Capes', it's an excellent track that brings a Corduroy Road styled (Scores venture in effect) guitar riff, accompanied by a much rougher texture to Adam's voice(feels more raw). That's exactly what brings out the heartfelt emotions that arise when writing a track about "your father". The acoustic track is even better! IMO...buy it...just buy it!!

People saying that "this is isn't Owl City" clearly don't know how music works at all. To grow as artist, you experiment, make different music occasionally, and continue to learn.
  • Love the new sound!

Ever since The Midsummer Station Owl City has been on a very steady decline in both quality of the music and the amount of heart put into it. ATBOB while pretty good started to show signs of an artist selling out. TMS lost the dreamy and charming feel of Ocean Eyes and Maybe I'm Dreaming and replaced it with typical pop garbage. Mobile Orchestra at least tried to include some variety but that can't make up for the awful lyrics and overall sound. Owl City may have always had pop influence but not to the degree where it sounded like something different entirely. This is barely even reminiscent of Owl City, and his fans eat it up because they're so loyal to him that they're blind to how bad it is. I repect trying to do something different but there's a way to do something different without straying too far from your roots. I hope the next album is better than this song.
